Genius ERP and AI: what a manufacturer can automate in 2026

Genius ERP has a REST API and its own AI, Genius Cortex. What a make-to-order manufacturer can automate, which path to take and what to ask about its data.

Genius ERP at a glance

Genius ERP is the management software from Genius Solutions, a vendor that describes it as designed and developed in Canada. It targets small and mid-sized custom manufacturers: industrial machinery, machine shops, sheet metal fabrication, mould, tool and die, pressure vessels, transportation equipment.

Its home ground is make-to-order manufacturing: estimating, engineering, purchasing, production scheduling and inventory. It already connects to several shop and office tools, including SOLIDWORKS, Autodesk Inventor, QuickBooks, Acomba, Sage and HubSpot, according to the vendor’s integrations page.

The way in: the REST API

Any serious automation goes through an interface built for it, not through simulated clicks on screen. Genius ERP has one. Its REST API page describes generic endpoints to reach selected, controlled entities, JSON data exchange and interactive Swagger documentation.

What the page does not publish is the list of exposed entities or how to get access. Before any project, ask the vendor what your licence and configuration allow you to read and write. It is the first question in our diagnostic, before we even talk about AI.

Genius Cortex, the vendor’s AI

Genius ERP also has its own AI. According to Modern Machine Shop (August 21, 2026), Genius Cortex is an AI and automation platform built into the ERP: a chatbot, natural language search, intelligent document processing, automated data capture and Outlook integration. The vendor also plans purchasing recommendations based on historical data.

The article does not say where Genius Cortex requests are processed. If your prices, drawings and margins are sensitive, ask in writing before turning it on, as with any AI built into an ERP. Our comparison of Acumatica and Business Central shows why the fine print matters.

What to automate first

In a make-to-order shop, lost time rarely hides in the ERP itself. It sits around it: emails, PDFs, drawings and follow-ups. These are the tasks that pay back fastest, based on what we see at manufacturers.

  • Quote requests. Extract quantities, materials and lead times from an email and a drawing, find similar parts already estimated and prepare a draft for the estimator.
  • Supplier bills. Read the PDF, match it to the purchase order and the receipt, flag price or quantity variances.
  • Late purchasing. Every morning, spot the late purchase orders that hold up a work order and draft the follow-up.
  • Production questions. Answer “what ships this week?” in plain language, with the work order numbers to back it up.

Staying in control of the agent and the data

Two rules prevent most bad surprises. First, the agent prepares and a person approves: it creates drafts and never confirms or pays anything. Second, the agent’s account only has the rights it needs, and every action it takes is logged.

Then there is the data. Sovereign AI runs on a server inside the company or with a Canadian-owned host, without sending your estimates to an outside AI service. That is the approach we took at Les Industries Romy, a manufacturer in Granby. For more, see our page on AI for manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Genius ERP have an API?

Yes. Genius Solutions describes a JSON REST API with interactive Swagger documentation and endpoints for selected, controlled entities. The documentation is not public: access depends on your licence and configuration.

What is Genius Cortex?

The AI platform built into Genius ERP, presented at IMTS 2026: natural language search, document processing, automated data capture and workflow automation, according to Modern Machine Shop.

Do we have to change ERP to add AI?

No. The agents connect to your Genius ERP through the API, depending on the access provided by the vendor. Your teams keep their screens and their habits.

Can an AI project in Genius ERP be funded?

Often, yes. For an eligible SME, the ESSOR program can fund up to 50% of the diagnostic and the rollout. See our [funding](/en/funding) page.
